The Roses in My Carpets Presentation (grades 9 - 12) View Teacher Guide

Rukhsana uses warmth and humour to tackle such serious subjects as child poverty and war in this popular presentation for youth and adults.  The presentation involves a behind the scenes look at this international award-winning story and a visual tour of an Afghan refugee camp in Peshawar, Pakistan.  Although similar to the junior presentation of the same name, this version is geared toward the sensibilities of  high school students.

From ESL to Author (grades 9 - 12) View Teacher Guide

Rukhsana relates her experiences growing up as an immigrant in a small town and how she coped with discrimination.  Then focusing on peer pressure, she reveals how an incident in her youth became the climactic scene of her award-winning novel, Dahling, If You Luve Me, Would You Please, Please Smile.  Although similar to the 'senior' presentation of the same name, this version is geared toward the sensibilities of  high school students.

Work in Progress Presentation (grades 9 - 12) View Teacher Guide

With a focus on the professional side of publishing, this presentation offers a dynamic look at the process of story creation.  Rukhsana shares everyday challenges and demonstrates the steps towards publishing with emphasis on editing and revision.
