The Roses
in My Carpets Presentation (grades 3 - 8)
Go behind the scenes and meet the inspiration for an international award-winning story. Take a visual tour of an Afghan refugee camp in Peshawar, Pakistan. Rukhsana uses warmth and humour to tackle such serious subjects as child poverty and war in this popular presentation for children and adults.

This presentation focuses on literacy and the immigrant experience, highlighting the importance of taking advantage of all learning opportunities available.

to Author Senior Presentation (grades 6-8)
Rukhsana relates her experiences growing up as an immigrant in a small town and how she coped with discrimination. Then focusing on peer pressure, she reveals how an incident in her youth became the climactic scene of her award-winning novel, Dahling, If You Luv Me, Would You Please, Please Smile.

Progress Presentation (grades 6-8)
This presentation offers a dynamic look at the process of story creation. Rukhsana shares everyday challenges and demonstrates the steps towards publishing with emphasis on editing and revision.
Creative Writing Workshop
Using her own stories as examples, Rukhsana explores how structure applies to story. She gets students writing with a variety of creativity exercises followed by tips on editing.
