Last Stand Hill, Montana

After the initial surprise wore off, Crazy Horse, Gall and some of the other Lakota chiefs gathered the warriors and they crept up these deep ravines under cover and slaughtered Custer's men. Captains Reno and Benteen were forced to dig in here and defend themselves, luckily they had the ammunition packs and were able to hold off the native warriors till General Terry's forces arrived the next day. Custer had charged ahead to Last Stand Hill (about five miles from here) to cut off any escape of the natives.
