Wounded Knee Memorial

Wounded Knee memorial, this is the spot where Chief Big Foot and over two hundred defenseless men, women and children were gunned down and massacred in 1890. They are buried in a mass grave just inside the enclosure. This marked the native's last resistance to European domination. In the 1970's some Lakotas had a stand off with government forces here, resulting in better terms and funding for native schools.
